Psychotherapy and Counseling

Individual Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a treatment for psychological, emotional and behavioral issues. It involves talking to a professional on regular basis over a period of time about current problems as well as life history. There are many specific forms of psychotherapy. At MindTherapy Clinic, we do not adhere to any one particular psychotherapeutic orientation, but rather tailor treatment to the specific needs of the individuals and couples with whom we work. Generally speaking, MindTherapy Clinic’s treatment approach involves understanding current problems within the framework of one’s life history.  Understanding the origins of problems and then practicing new behaviors allows people to change their characteristic ways of being in the world which relieves symptoms of distress and enhances a sense of self-esteem and well-being.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

This is a very different type of psychotherapy focused on modifying thoughts, perceptions and behaviors.  Research shows this type of therapy to be a very effective treatment for a range of specific depressive and anxiety disorders.  In many cases, cognitive behavioral therapy is a better first option than medications.  We provide both individual and group Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy (MBCT)

This type of cognitive therapy teaches being present in the moment. We help patients identify their thoughts and feelings without judging them. Mindfulness-based therapy (MBCT) is most effective in mental and emotional trauma and anxiety based disorders. It incorporates meditation, visualization, breathing exercises, and learning to recognize emotional state moment to moment.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is a form of psychotherapy where a group of people work with one or more therapists or counselors. This method is also more cost effective than individual psychotherapy and is oftentimes more effective for the right patients. Mind Therapy Clinic offers a variety of group therapies with both cognitive-behavioral and traditional psychotherapeutic orientations in anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, addiction, and life stage issues.

It is common for those suffering from a mental illness or problem behavior to feel alone, isolated or different. Group therapy can help clients by providing a peer group of individuals that are currently experiencing the same symptoms or who have recovered from a similar problem. Group members can also provide emotional support and a safe forum to practice new behaviors.

Couples and Family Therapy

Relationships are a fundamental aspect of our lives. Sometimes even our primary relationships can be strained, stressful, or even dysfunctional. Frequently, problematic family relationships can even precipitate behavioral problems. In couples and family therapy, maladaptive patterns are identified with a focus on making lasting structural changes.
