Dr. Alicia Lawson, received her bachelors degree from New York University, and her doctorate of clinical psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. She completed her clinical training at the Institute on Aging, South of Market Mental Heath Clinic, and Marin County Community Mental Health Center. Dr. Lawson specializes in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and has completed additional training through Behavioral Tech, LCC. She has applied this treatment to personality disorders, older adults, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, eating disorders and adolescent patients. Dr. Lawson has over seven years of group experience, including leading depression, anxiety, anger management, DBT skills groups, caregivers support groups, and bereavement process groups. For the last three years, Dr. Lawson has co-taught group leadership courses at Marin County Community Mental Health. She has also provided DBT trainings at Marin County Community Mental Health and Apple Family Works. In addition to DBT, she uses other evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Psychotherapy with couples, and exposure treatments for panic, anxiety and PTSD. With a background in program evaluations, Dr. Lawson is focused on developing the emerging discipline of DBT and publishing those finding on her blog.
