Dr. Nicole Poell is dedicated to bringing well-being back into your life. She wholeheartedly believes in the power of mindfulness and guiding beings to a place of peace while adopting a no nonsense approach to therapy.

Her knowledge and experience are rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and she specializes in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

What is ACT?
ACT is a unique empirically validated psychological intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies together with values-based commitment and behavior change strategies to increase psychological flexibility. Psychological flexibility means contacting the present moment fully as a conscious human being, based on what the situation affords, changing or persisting in behavior in order to move toward chosen values. "I have found that ACT makes sense to me and especially to my clients. I am deeply honored to be part of a client's journey of creating a meaningful life and guide individuals toward their own potential by exploring underlying processes."

Going the extra mile:
Nicole integrates mindfulness, movement and the healing power of nature in her practice, which clients have found empowering. Nicole might take you, when appropriate, on mindful walks or engage you in mindful movements in order to practice skills. She integrates ACT into this practice as part of her overall approach to therapy.

Nicole's Education and License

Nicole earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA. She has 10 years of cumulative experience working with clients on issues from feeling stuck to managing severe mental illness. Nicole has worked in schools, dual-diagnosis treatment programs, forensic programs and community mental health agencies before coming to the Mind Therapy Clinic.

Nicole is a licensed Clinical Psychologist providing individual and group psychotherapy for adults. Nicole integrates her knowledge and experience as Clinical supervisor to provide integrated treatment. Nicole is passionate about helping the Mind Therapy Clinic provide excellent services as well as guide new clinicians in providing comprehensive and competent care.

In her personal life, Nicole engages in mindfulness, yoga, travel, hiking, fitness and martial arts, all of which have helped her develop balance and are relevant in her professional life.   

Nicole is originally from Austria, which reflects in her social, cultural and ethnic sensitivity, contributing greatly to her work.
