Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy Treatment

Mind Therapy Clinic is happy to announce we are now offering Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) as a part of comprehensive, integrated treatment services.

Ketamine has a very different action in the brain from commonly used antidepressants. For those suffering from depression that hasn’t responded to a number of antidepressant trials, this new treatment may be a valuable option.

When Should You Consider Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

If you have a major depressive disorder and have tried at least two antidepressant treatments, have not responded to treatment are considered to have treatment-resistant depression.

Mind Therapy Clinic’s psychiatrists represent a select set of clinicians with the expertise to offer this treatment, who will oversee and provide guidance throughout the entire treatment.   Combined with other therapies available at Mind Therapy Clinic, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy will provide an exceptional therapeutic experience to our patients desiring positive outcomes.

  1. Numerous studies show that ketamine can work as a fast-acting antidepressant, alleviating symptoms in many patients in a matter of hours or days.

  2. Studies have shown ketamine therapy significantly and rapidly reduced depression symptoms in about 50 to 70 percent of patients. Traditional antidepressants can take four to six weeks to take effect, and for some patients, they may not work.

  3. Other psychedelic drugs, including psilocybin, the active ingredient in “magic” mushrooms and LSD, as well as MDMA, known as ecstasy, are being studied to treat various mental health conditions, but esketamine and ketamine currently are the only drugs of this kind that can be prescribed legally outside clinical trials.

Why Ketamine?

Because this treatment is altering the brain to be re-wired to function differently, the treatment will provide a different result than what you’ve experienced in the past. While traditional antidepressants can affect levels of certain brain chemicals related to mood and emotion, ketamine influences a different neurotransmitter called glutamate. Ketamine can trigger a cascade of biochemical, structural, and functional changes in the brain. Ketamine works by essentially making the brain more malleable and receptive to therapy or alternate ways of thinking.
