Staff members provide feedback and guidance to optimize residents’ opportunities for success

Residents are asked to commit to a minimum stay of 4 weeks with an average stay of 60 to 90 days.

Residents come together three days per week for house meetings led by our professional staff. In addition to the therapeutic benefits gained by this, residents also enjoy socialization and cultivate a sense of community and mutual support.

Who is good fit for the E Street House community?

E Street House serves adults between ages 18 and 75 with complex mental illness, who are not at immediate risk of harm to themselves or others, and do not have active challenges with risky impulse control or self-harming behavior. Our residents come to us from many sources, including Mind Therapy Clinic’s outpatient programs, residential treatment facilities, or hospitals following a period of psychiatric hospitalization and stabilization.

Residents are working through issues such as depression and anxiety, as well as illnesses such as obsessive compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Although diagnosis is taken into account, we focus on addressing obstacles that prevent independent living, while building on the strengths inherent in each individual.

E Street House residents are asked to commit to medication compliance, taking their medications as prescribed. Daily medications can be observed, but residents must be able to hold and take their medications independently.

There is a non-substance use policy at E Street House. We do not allow use of alcohol, medical or recreational marijuana, or illicit substances in our program. We support residents to make use of peer recovery models and groups, as needed. Many of our residents use caffeine, nicotine, and food for self-soothing, and we implement harm reduction strategies in support of wellness goals.

E Street House is a non-smoking environment. If residents are not able to manage their smoking safely, staff may hold and distribute their cigarettes under safe conditions.

Our primary goal is a safe environment for personal growth and development. We have a zero-tolerance policy for any type of discrimination based on race, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity/expression among residents. Any physical, verbal, emotional abuse or behaviors that jeopardize the safety of other residents will not be tolerated and may result in eviction. If the treatment team assesses that the resident is not safe or thriving at E Street House, we will provide the individual and caregivers with recommendations for a more appropriate setting. E Street House uses the best practices in evidence-based interventions for supporting wellness of mind, body, and spirit. Adjunct interventions such as spiritual counseling, body work, nutritional counseling, specific issue-therapy groups, and gym memberships are frequently sought out by individual residents but are not included in E Street House services.

A Day at E Street House

E Street House is a structured independent-living program, with staff available throughout weekdays, evenings, and weekends, with no holding of medications or money. Residents are free to come and go during non-program times, and have weekends free.

Each resident works with staff to create a balanced care schedule. We work with a team of people – family, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, doctors, peer group sponsors, registered dietitians, trainers, conservators/payees – to contribute to and support that schedule.

All of our residents are expected to participate in all meal planning and preparation, house meetings, complete weekly household chores, and to be a mindful member of a shared household. Our E Street House managers provide practical and emotional support and assist with coordination of appointments and activities.

Most residents have a private room.
